The Hidden Book by Kirsty Manning

It’s no secret that I adore my friend Kirsty Manning and everything she writes. This one — The Hidden Book — is about a WWII heirloom that was passed down through history, involving war criminals and concentration camps, to be found in a garden shed in Australia in 2019. I had the privilege of launching the book at Readings in Melbourne last night and it was such a fun night. Buy here.

The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron

Look, I might be embarrassingly late to the party on this one but OH MY GOODNESS Julia Cameron’s incredible, infamous book about unleashing creativity has been a godsend for me lately. This book has inspired by the likes of Elizabeth Gilbert, and it’s truly amazing. Julia Cameron has been teaching creativity courses in NYC and around the world for several decades and is most famous for her ‘morning pages’ exercise, which you might have heard of. The Artist’s Way is basically a twelve-week program to unlock your inner artist (whether it’s writing, painting, or simply living a more creative life), but you can dip in and out of the book to read interesting passages or do some of the exercises. She’s even written The Artist’s Way for Children and other spin-offs through the years! Buy here.

The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart (2023) on Prime

Like most of Australia, I was hanging out for this show to air, based on the bestselling book The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart by glorious human Holly Ringland. What a cast — Sigourney Weaver and Leah Purcell, to name a few. It absolutely did not disappoint. The scenery and shots were stunning, acting superb, and it’s just so nice to hear Aussie accents on screen, don’t you think? If you’re not familiar with the book, the story follows Alice Hart from when she’s orphaned as a child, to going to live with her grandmother (who she didn’t know about) on a flower farm that also doubles as a sanctuary for women who have escaped abusive relationships. We then follow Alice through to her 20s when she runs away to the desert in NT to work in remote communities. Loved it. Watch it on Amazon Prime!
