Who has been watching And Just Like That? I’m assuming the answer is all of you, and if not… what’s wrong with you?! 

The reason I ask is that last week, after watching the most recent episode where Carrie asks Enid (aka Candice Bushnell) to blurb her book (one of the many shameful shameful parts of being an author), I opened instagram to find that none other than Sarah Jessica Parker had recommended The Soulmate to her 9.2 million followers. Excuse me while I watch Janey and Jeff do the dance off on Dance TV for the millionth time. (Side note: whatever happened to Jeff? He was a DISH.)

I digress.

In other great news, this week I had the pleasure of launching my amazing assistant Amy Lovat’s novel, Mistakes and Other Lovers at Readings Carlton (a SOLD OUT event if you don’t mind). Seeing good things happen to good hardworking people is one of my favourite things so it’s fair to say I’m on cloud 9.

Just Between Us by Adele Parks

My girl Adele Parks can do no wrong! Her books are always thrilling and twisty and I love them. Her latest, Just Between Us, has just come out and it’s about a woman who goes missing — turns out she was married to two men at the same time, neither knew about the other, and both husbands are suspects. It’s a must read for sure. Buy here.

The Hike by Lucy Clarke

When my assistant visited Melbourne recently, we were gushing about books (obviously) and she’s recently gotten into Lucy Clarke, a British ‘destination crime’ writer. When we were chatting, I realised I’ve read some of Lucy’s books too! Her latest is The Hike, which is set in Norway and follows four childhood best friends setting out on an adventure, but only three will return. Gripping! And I know I’m not very outdoorsy, but it made me want to hike Norwegian mountains — Lucy Clarke is fantastic at location descriptions. Buy here.

Mistakes and Other Lovers by Amy Lovat

This is it! The book my assistant wrote that I didn’t even KNOW about until she scored herself a book deal. That’s right. I had no idea my assistant was writing a book. She didn’t ask for me for tips on how to write. She didn’t ask for an introduction to my publisher. She didn’t ask for my advice on how to get into the industry. She just quietly got to work, wrote a sensational book, and then sat back and waited for the offers to roll in. Which, of course, they DID. By the time I got to read it she’d already signed a deal WITH MY PUBLISHER. The book is Mistakes and Other Lovers and it is utterly brilliant and you all must read it. It reminds me of all the angsty stuff about growing up: the importance of friendship, the heartache of rejection and shame, feeling lost and discovering yourself, experimenting with sex, drugs, religion... and it is so well-written. I am so excited and proud and we had such a great time at the Melbourne launch this week! Buy here.

Deadloch (2023) on Prime

This eight-part Australian series was just excellent! Comedians Kate McLennan and Kate McCartney wrote and produced the show, and they were apparently inspired by the UK detective series Broadchurch. But of course, there’s a (hilarious, Aussie) twist. Two friends are strolling a beach when they discover a corpse, and the rest you’ll just have to watch. Deadloch combines mystery and humour — two of my all-time favourite things. Watch it on Amazon Prime!
